Welcome

This platform is dedicated to exploring the intersection of Christian faith, reason, and modern ethics through the ministry of Mike Pietsch, Lutheran pastor and university chaplain. Drawing on over 40 years of experience, this site offers resources—including sermons, devotions, and ideas—focused on bringing theology into the public square and connecting the Gospel with everyday life. Critical responses and constructive criticism are highly welcomed to foster genuine dialogue.

About Mike Pietsch

I am a Lutheran pastor and university chaplain with over 40 years of experience bringing theology into the public square. Based in Australia, my ministry focuses on connecting the Gospel with everyday life through pastoral support, honest debate and academic engagement.

Experience and expertise

My work explores the intersection of faith, reason and modern ethics. As a scholar of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, I use his Christology as a framework for chaplaincy and dialogue. I hold a Master of Theology and have served in various roles across congregations, government schools and higher education.

My academic background includes:

  • Master of Theology (University of Divinity)

  • Bachelor of Theology (Luther Seminary)

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Hebrew (University of Melbourne)

Values and interests

I value holistic care for the world and enjoy meaningful conversations that challenge established thinking. Outside of my ministry, I am a traveller, a thinker and a family man – the husband of the late Dr Helen Pietsch and a father and grandfather.

This website is a resource for sermons, devotions and ideas. I welcome critical responses and constructive criticism to help this space grow.

I dedicate this site to Helen and my family. Special thanks to Jess Pietsch for her technical and creative contributions.

Writings and reflections

My writings and reflections are now hosted in Google NotebookLM, an educational workspace that supports organised, in-depth study. A Google account is required for access; please get in touch if this creates any difficulty.

What You’ll Find

  • Sermons and devotions written to spark discussion

  • Reflections that connect scripture with lived human experience

  • Notes and questions exploring how belief and reason can work together

  • Ongoing work at the intersection of theology, psychology, community, and daily life

Each piece is created to encourage open, respectful engagement. The aim is not to present final answers but to share a continuing commitment to learning and exploration together.
